2015 - The Year of the Bada$$

Tell me what you know about the Badmon named Joziph

Okay, I know. Anything I say about how lately I've been jamming the fuck out to Joey Bada$$ and how I think he's one of the best young rappers alive is going to be completely overshadowed by Kendrick Lamar's recently released album, "To Pimp A Butterfly". It's a masterpiece and I completely bow down to Kendrick on everything he's been able to accomplish musically as well as personally, he's an artist and has created many of the best rap and hip hop tracks within the past 5 years. Now, with that being said, here's my piece on Joey Bada$$, because I feel like at this point he's earned it.

His debut studio album "B4.DA.$$", was released on January 19th of this year - a day before his birthday - and it received very strong reviews for the most part. Personally, I loved it, out of the 17 tracks there are 12 that I really like. His flow throughout the album is on point, and the beats he used were impeccable. He constantly references coming back home to Brooklyn, and how now that he's gaining more popularity money is starting to change everything in his life. He still wants to keep his roots and stay grounded, but having fame and fortune can often change a person. He's caught in that "struggle", and expressed that throughout the album.

He has several dope features as well, including Action Bronson, BJ the Chicago Kid, Chronixx, & Maverick Sabre. Overall, I'd give the album 9/10, and definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys rap and hasn't given it a listen yet. I just really enjoyed it, a lot more than I expected actually. I had heard a few Joey Bada$$ tracks before I gave B4DA$$ a listen, but he wasn't one of my favourite rappers to listen to or anything like that. He is now, though. I think B4DA$$ is gonna propel Joey to the top of the rap game, somewhere he's going to be for a very, very long time.
